Description

Bryan County Schools is accepting applications for a dynamic professional for the position of Special Education Behavior Specialist.

 

This position provides support to students with disabilities through the implementation of mandates under Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the Georgia Continuous Improvement Monitoring Process (GCIMP). Provides leadership in the development and coordination of behavior therapies and interventions for students within the district. Works with school staff and school administrative staff to promote various methods of positive behavior support for identified students. 

 

        Major Job Duties Include:

  • Responsible for on-site supervision and for training of staff in intervention techniques.  Designs and implements behavioral treatment programs for students; conducts data collection and evaluation of student behaviors.

  • Collaborates with school based staff to determine appropriate services for eligible students through recommending adjustments to the learning environment, adapting curricula, or accommodations. Monitors and models the use of best practices for implementing research based behavior strategies in the school setting.

  • Liaises with other local and state agencies, as well as private/public schools and institutions to continually enhance and promote learning for students. 

  • Performs regular monitoring and reporting of assigned areas to support overall district cohesion, success and compliance.

 

         Job Qualifications:

  • Degree in education from an accredited college or university. Minimum Bachelor degree, Masters preferred.

  • Valid Georgia Teaching Certificate and driver's license required.

  • Minimum of 3 years teaching experience in special education or a related field.

  • Specific training and expertise in the area of behavior intervention and behavioral therapies.

  • This position requires regular, frequent contact with internal personnel and external stakeholders of influence and decision-making authority to discuss issues of moderate importance.  Excellent interpersonal skills are required for interacting and working with various levels of individuals.

  • This position requires excellent presentation, written and verbal skills.

  • This position utilizes technology concepts to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the department; must be proficient with computer.

  • Must have the physical strength and dexterity to perform non-violent crisis intervention methodologies which may include physical restraint.

  • Requires regular in district travel and occasional out of district and overnight travel.
